The architect Domenico Martinelli (1650-1718) was commisioned to build the monumental main staircase (completed around 1686) The grand staircase in sand stone, embellished with vaults decorated with early eighteenth-century paintings attributed to Bartolomeo De Santi and to Lorenzo Castellotti the staircase leads into the large main hall of the Palazzo.
