Lake Palace is undoubtedly Udaipur’s proud centre piece, the luxury hotel has white marble walls, many adorned with semi-precious stones and ornamented niches. Gardens, fountains, pillared terraces and columns line its courtyards. The palace features in several movies, the James Bond film Octopussy being the most famous. Below the heart of the old town and distinctive city palace are the historic ghats (stairways down to the water) these are still in used by local women doing their washing in the lake, adding colour and character to the famous White City.
